» Laurel Elementary Back-to-School Bash «

The end of August means everyone’s prep’ing for back-to-school (including my kiddos) and it was fun to spend time with Laurel Elementary School students and families as they kicked off the new school year with a party. There was a radio DJ, shooting hoops, free backpack pickup, visiting classrooms, grilled hotdogs, and more. One of the support organizations lining the gym I also had an opportunity to speak to is The Nu You, Inc. who offer ‘Mama Needs a Hand’ service - a 2 hour nonclinical on-demand support service to help with laundry, childcare, emotional support, and small tasks around the home to reduce the overwhelm of moms. Here’s to a great year ahead for students, teachers, and families!

» LPD Kids Cops Camp Graduation «

And back on August 21, I had the pleasure of joining with Laurel Police Department and other City electeds to help congratulate kids ‘graduating’ from the annual summer Cops Camp put on by the Department, a community favorite! There were around 65 campers this year and they experienced a wide range of activities during the week like a petting zoo, behind-the-scenes station tour, laser tag, movie trip, State Trooper helicopter visit, and more. Parents were on hand to help recognize the week’s close and kids went home with a bevy of special memories! (Be sure to keep an eye out for sign-ups next year as spots go fast and everyone has a blast!) 😀
